My Son's Obama Video

My Son's Obama Video

RATE: 8
I'm a mom first and foremost.  I'd like to believe that I am raising thinking children who will contribute to our world rather than be burdens on it.  Please indulge me a bit of gushing about my son.
I heard the song "Coming Around Again" by Simon Webbe a few weeks ago and immediately thought that it would be a perfect song for the Obama campaign.  In my opinion, you cannot possibly listen to this song and continue to feel depressed.  I wanted to make a video for it, because I felt that it would give others a similar lift when they heard it, but I'm hopelessly inept when it comes to techie things.
I asked my son if he would do it for me.  After only a small but consistent dose of carefully-applied motherly guilt, here is the video he made for me.  I hope it gives you hope, too.

That's really great, Lisa! Sweet song, nice montage.

You know what strikes me? This tune is basically a contemporary country tune. You can totally imagine the Dixie Chicks singing this. Wonder if anyone like that will cover it?
It feels gospel-y to me, Leigh, in that get-your-bones-up-and-dance type of way. It's a terrifically optimistic song, though, so it would be great if someone would cover it. I hope that it finds its way to many hearts and ears. We can certainly use some optimism.
This is great! Thanks for the uplift!
Definitely gospel as well, but a lot of country has kind of gospel-y undertones.

What we need here is a musical historian to chime in. Anyone?
Wonderful. I need to know how old your son is. My wonderful and amazing sons are 15 and 19. This is so professional that the Obama campaign would be proud to use it. Tell Ryan, "Well done!" Paws up.
Julie - I'm so glad that this helped to lift your spirits. We can all use a big dose of optimism these days.

Leigh - I believe you're correct that country music has its roots in gospel. I'll ask my son when he gets home. He's a music history nut. I'll report back. :)

Dogwoman - I actually have three sons, ages 8, 12, and 18. The 18 year old made this video. I'm so glad that you've enjoyed my son's hopeful message!
Good on your son! He did an awesome job. A good son.
Faith - Thanks for stopping by!

Umbrella - Yes, I noticed that too - Obama and Simon Webbe are both similarly-featured men. I'd never thought that Obama was that attractive, but as I've gotten to "know" him better, he now strikes me as an attractive man. I guess it's how people in your life appear more attractive as you get to know them better and see their goodness.

Mary - Thanks, Mary. He is a good son. I only had to nag, er, persuade him a teeny-weeny little bit to get this done. :)
Wow. He did a GREAT job! Tell him thank you.

They really could use this for a great Obama commercial. I thought it was particularly effective when he was speaking with the music under his words. And I love you for saying you are "a mom first and foremost." After my son was born I felt like that was my most important contribution to the world.

I think it is pretty clear that you are doing a damn good job of raising up your three sons. (Hey, somebody should make a TV show. They could call it My Three Sons ;)
Leigh - I asked my son about the country vs. gospel debate. He said that both types of music would have similar elements to them since both originated in the south. No matter where this one came from, though, it's still an uplifting song.

Susan - You are so sweet! I did give Ryan your compliment. Thank you for watching the video and being so kind. :)
