I'm a mom first and foremost. I'd like to believe that I am raising thinking children who will contribute to our world rather than be burdens on it. Please indulge me a bit of gushing about my son.
I heard the song "Coming Around Again" by Simon Webbe a few weeks ago and immediately thought that it would be a perfect song for the Obama campaign. In my opinion, you cannot possibly listen to this song and continue to feel depressed. I wanted to make a video for it, because I felt that it would give others a similar lift when they heard it, but I'm hopelessly inept when it comes to techie things.
I asked my son if he would do it for me. After only a small but consistent dose of carefully-applied motherly guilt, here is the video he made for me. I hope it gives you hope, too.

You know what strikes me? This tune is basically a contemporary country tune. You can totally imagine the Dixie Chicks singing this. Wonder if anyone like that will cover it?
What we need here is a musical historian to chime in. Anyone?
Leigh - I believe you're correct that country music has its roots in gospel. I'll ask my son when he gets home. He's a music history nut. I'll report back. :)
Dogwoman - I actually have three sons, ages 8, 12, and 18. The 18 year old made this video. I'm so glad that you've enjoyed my son's hopeful message!
Umbrella - Yes, I noticed that too - Obama and Simon Webbe are both similarly-featured men. I'd never thought that Obama was that attractive, but as I've gotten to "know" him better, he now strikes me as an attractive man. I guess it's how people in your life appear more attractive as you get to know them better and see their goodness.
Mary - Thanks, Mary. He is a good son. I only had to nag, er, persuade him a teeny-weeny little bit to get this done. :)
They really could use this for a great Obama commercial. I thought it was particularly effective when he was speaking with the music under his words. And I love you for saying you are "a mom first and foremost." After my son was born I felt like that was my most important contribution to the world.
I think it is pretty clear that you are doing a damn good job of raising up your three sons. (Hey, somebody should make a TV show. They could call it My Three Sons ;)
Susan - You are so sweet! I did give Ryan your compliment. Thank you for watching the video and being so kind. :)
